One of the most historical buildings of the area of Epirus is the Chani which is in Melia.


Construction Data

The edifice of 1950, follows the architecture that we meet in respective buildings in the area. An arched entrance leads to the large interior courtyard, at the right of which extends the bulk of the building. The main building consists of a ground floor and a first floor, and it's built in an L shape. Each floor consists of a portico, the outer part of which is exposed in the large courtyard. The Portico on the ground floor rests on a stone colonnade while the floor's on a wooden one . The first level houses the stadium and facilities of the building. On the first floor are the rooms that used to harbor passers.

The layout of the interior is designed to save space, while the decor is influenced by the folk art of the period.

In the courtyard, there are areas of building infrastructure such as wells and Animal stables, while during the period of operation, there was intense social activity.

Historical Data

The inn of Emin Aga, was used as headquarters from the Greek Stratoukata for the operations to liberate Epirus in the First Balkan War. Currently, on the premises of the headquarters, is housed a military museum of the period. The purpose of creating the museum is the presentation of the Greek Army's operations for the liberation of Ioannina and Epirus in general during the First Balkan War.

The museum exhibits weapons, decorations and medals of the Greek and the Turkish army. Also on display are photos of the war, military uniforms and various relics. In a separate area of the museum is represented the Office of the Senior General Constantine and the reception.

The most important relics are watercolors by Kenan Mesare, the son of a Turkish general Hasan Tahsin Pasha. These depicted the then prime minister Eleftherios Venizelos, Evzone to guard standpoint outside the inn, the Greek soldier in Epirus, women of Epirus carrying ammunition for the Greek Army, but also civilians and wounded. Finally, Esat Pasha and the Turkish commander of Ioannina conversing with the Commander-Constantine after the delivery of Ioannina are depicted. Visitors have the opportunity to watch the battle of Bizani with existing audiovisual system, which has recently been modernized.

Many buildings from the preindustrial period can be seen in the area, which helps you compose the image of the area over time. Such buildings are inns, especially in Kryfovo. Most notable are the Hani of St. Demetrius, the watermill in Copan and the Hani of Simos Papa in Kostaniani. Also, at the village Senico, one can admire the most beautiful bridges in the region which are examples of the traditional architecture.

Also, visitors can be informed about the places of historical-cultural-archeological interest at museums that exist in some villages, such as the Military Headquarters of War Museum in Hani Emin Aga at village Myrodafni, the Outdoor Folk Patridge Museum and the Folklore Museum in the village Poligiros etc.

The exuberant nature of the area, except from giving Dodona a great historical and archaeological interest, also makes Dodona a unique destination for excursions, tours and a series of activities for lovers of alternative tourism. The visitor will be able to enjoy great hiking trails, offered by the massif of Olytsikas, and if you happen to visit the site of Dodona in periods of sporting events you will be able to participate in a mountain race. Also visitors are given a unique opportunity to dive at the Vouliastas lake which is formed by the springs of Louros.
