The cross-border European Territorial Cooperation Program “Greece-Italy 2007-2013”

The cross-border European Territorial Cooperation Program “Greece - Italy 2007 – 2013” was approved by the European Commission on 28/03/2008 by Decision C (2008)1132/ 28/03/2008. The total budget of the program amounts to 118.606.893 €, of which national resources are 29.651.723 € (25%), while 88.955.170 € (75%) are taken from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The overall goal of the “Greece – Italy” is “to enhance the competitiveness and territorial cohesion in the area, in the direction of sustainable development through the coupling of forces on both sides of the sea border line.”

 

Priority Axis 3: “Improving the quality of life, environmental protection and the development of social and cultural cohesion”

The third priority axis “Improving the quality of life, environmental protection and development of social and cultural cohesion”, which is part of the Act “Stone and Tradition” has clear and defined goals, which are listed as follow:

  • -The improvement of the cooperation to address common problems related to health services, social integration issues and risk prevention by sharing best practices, networking and common protocols.
  • -Increase of the use of renewable energy.
  • -The development of sustainable management, of natural resources, particularly in relation to environmental protection.
  • -The improvement of services and elimination of exclusion conditions of vulnerable social groups, by improving service administration and management at all levels in the health and social sectors.
  • -The increase in tourism that’s related to cultural and natural heritage.
